Comfort and Joy
Wishing you a very Happy New Year, from all of us at the Hanover Choir! We’re looking forward to our new term starting tomorrow, and thought we’d take this opportunity to look back at the term just gone.
After our away weekend (discussed at length in our last post), our autumn term kicked off in late September and we rehearsed a an eclectic selection of Christmas pieces for our December concert. For the last year, we have taken on additional performing opportunities by singing one service a term at our home base St Olave’s. This term’s service took place in early October. We had a lovely time rehearsing and singing Attwood’s Teach Me O Lord and Rutter’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You, plus other hymns and blessings.
Our concert on December 2nd was a very fun evening full of festive tunes. For the full rundown of our repertoire for this performance, see our archive. Adam led choir and audience alike in a rousing rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas. Afterwards, we took advantage of a new venue for post-concert drinks that had a very merry atmosphere indeed. Thanks to all our singers and audience for helping us to kick off the yuletide season in such style!
The Thursday after our concert, in lieu of our usual rehearsal, we held our annual carolling session. This year we added a new location, visiting Beaumont Court Care Home where a former member is resident. Altogether it was a lovely experience to bring joyful music into the home, and the residents seemed to enjoy it! We then travelled to the City to sing at our usual roster of tube stations before arriving at our last stop, our favourite pub The Ship. We love carolling in the pub, as the punters always join in with a lively chorus.
After a restorative break, we are excited to get stuck in to our spring term. Find your voice – if you’re looking to sing more in 2024, we’d love for you to join us. Starting tomorrow we’ll be rehearsing for our spring concert on 23rd March. And we’re also looking ahead to our choral workshop on 14th January. We’ll be singing highlights of Handel’s Messiah. Also Adam will take us through some of the history of the piece, so it promises to be a very fun and enlightening afternoon. Tickets are still available if you’d like to join us!
