Looking Back on Last Season: Part 1

Looking Back on Last Season: Part 1

As we head into a new season, it feels like a good time to look back on what we’ve accomplished in the last year.

Last autumn was eventful – we rehearsed an eclectic programme for our Christmas concert, and we hosted a Come & Sing of Mozart’s Requiem. The Come & Sing in November was well-attended and a fun afternoon of learning, meeting new people, enjoying company and cake, and of singing this epic choral work. Save the date for our next Come & Sing – we’ll be hosting a Come & Sing of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday 14th January, 2024.

In December we hosted our annual Christmas concert, featuring carols and festive tunes by various composers including Hector Berlioz, R. Vaughan Williams, Malcolm Sargent, Marc-Antoine Charpentier and James MacMillan. You can see the full repertoire in our archive.

We also partook in our annual carolling session around the City, which is always a low-key fun way to spend an evening before enjoying a Christmas break.

In the spring, we worked hard learning two larger choral works ahead of an Easter concert. We really enjoyed getting stuck into Duruflé’s Requiem and César Franck’s The Last Seven Words of Christ. Sadly train strikes meant we were forced to delay the concert until just after Easter, but the anti-climactic nature of the concert didn’t impact our enjoyment of singing the pieces!

The spring concert was at a new venue for us, Holy Trinity Church on Prince Consort Road just next to the Royal College of Music! They were very welcoming, and special thanks to our organist Colin Druce, celloist Camille Gabbert, and our soloists, James Butler, Anna Gregg, Alex Karlsson and Chloe Todd.

And of course, we always enjoy socializing. We’re at the pub after every rehearsal and concert, and we’re always up for a good time.

We’ll continue our look back at the last year in our next post, coming soon…
