It’s Good to See Your Face
This week marked a year since our away weekend to Deal in September 2019. The away weekend has become a yearly tradition for us – we all decamp to a small town, usually by the sea, for the weekend. Those of us who can meet up in the pub on the Friday evening, we rehearse during the day on Saturday, give a small concert on Saturday evening followed by a dinner together, and on Sunday those who wish to go on a long coastal walk. It’s a great way for us to come together after the summer break, before the start of a new season, and we are often joined by former members including those who have moved out of London. We’ve had many pleasant weekends together in the last few years, but to me Deal stands out. Partly because we were favoured by the weather (we had beautiful sunshine for our walks), and partly because we happened to be in the pub after our meal together on the Saturday evening for karaoke night (highlights include It’s Raining Men and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road). We don’t often get the opportunity to sing together in a non-choral setting, and we took full advantage. A good time was had by all!
For obvious reasons, this year we won’t be having an away weekend, but we did take advantage of the weekend to come together for a small picnic. It was the first time any of us has been together since that final rehearsal on the 12th March, almost exactly 6 months ago. We decided we’d better meet outdoors at a central location, and landed on Postman’s Park, just around the corner from our usual rehearsal venue, the Voces8 Centre on Gresham Street.
We had a good turnout, with 13 of us in total, and it was lovely to see everyone’s faces and catch up properly after 6 months of being apart. We were lucky with the weather this year too, a crisp sunny autumn day. Some of us even popped into our local for a glass of wine to round off the day (we continued to stand outside!). Many thanks to the members who came out, and to those who couldn’t make it or didn’t feel comfortable in the current climate, you were missed and we hope to be able to come together soon!
In our last post, we shared a quiz we enjoyed over the summer called a Composer Crazy and promised you the answers in this post. Click here to see the answers.
